Sisi’s Health Advisor Denies Postponing New Academic Year 2021/2022

Authorities announced on Monday that the new academic year 2021/2022 is set to begin in October, affirming that there is no intention to postpone study due to COVID-19.

Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health Affairs stressed that Egypt is making remarkable progress in the vaccination process in all governmental and private sectors.

"Both Ministries of Education and Higher Education have developed a plan for all employees by providing covid vaccines directly," Tag El-Din said, adding that during the next few weeks, large quantities of vaccines will be pumped, especially for university students.

Therefore, there is no intention to postpone the new academic year, whether for university or pre-university education, as the state aims at returning to normal life in all fields, especially the field of education.

Ministry of Education has previously announced that the new school year 2021/2022, for public, private, and foreign language schools, is going to start on October 9.

“The academic year begins on Saturday, October 9, 2021, and ends on Thursday, June 16, 2022,” the ministry said in a statement. “The school year will last for about 34 weeks.”

The statement noted that the duration of the actual school days, not involving official holidays, will be 93 days for the first semester and 97 days for the second semester. Moreover, the actual study days should be 190 days, which is equivalent to 32 weeks.

It also added: “The mid-year vacation starts from Saturday, February 5, 2022, until Thursday, February 17, 2022.”
