President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received on Wednesday Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, in addition to the Italian Ambassador to Cairo and a number of Italian officials.
The meeting witnessed the confirmation of the mutual aspiration to support the distinguished partnership between the two friendly countries, and to continue the positive development and strong impetus for bilateral cooperation, in light of the historical relations that unite Egypt and Italy, and the deep cultural ties between the two peoples.
In this context, the two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and increase trade exchange between the two countries.
They underlined the importance of strengthening the ongoing work to support food production and joint industrial cooperation, as well as exploiting the opportunities available in the field of energy and renewable energy.
They also appreciated the growing investments made by Italian companies in Egypt.
Regarding the international and regional situations, the meeting discussed the current developments on the Palestinian-Israeli level, where there was an agreement on the serious nature of the situation, and the importance of working to stop the escalation and achieve a truce between the two sides, in order to preserve the stability of the region, while confirming that a just and comprehensive peace, based on the two-state solution, is an absolute necessity for the stability of the region.
Tajani also confirmed Italy's reliance on Egypt's important and vital role in this regard.
For his part, President Sisi explained that Egypt is making efforts and intensifying its contacts to contain the situation in order to prevent it from escalating, stressing the importance of stopping the bloodshed, protecting civilians, preventing their targeting, and preventing the deterioration of the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian people.
He also warned against the serious repercussions of the ongoing conflict, and the importance of the European and international role in supporting the path of de-escalation and negotiations.
