President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed on Sunday the government to promote efforts to maximize the economic benefits of the State's oil and natural gas resources, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
Meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Tarek El Molla, and Presidential Aide for National and Strategic Projects Sherif Ismail, Sisi also ordered the government to secure the energy needs of citizens and various industries and to increase exploration activities.
The meeting tackled the Petroleum Ministry's ongoing projects, especially those aimed at increasing the yield of old oilfields, oil and gas explorations, as well as the latest developments in global oil markets.
Molla briefed the president on the ministry's efforts to meet local demand and reduce its production-consumption gap by upgrading its system for handling, storing and distributing petroleum products and expanding the scale of infrastructure projects.
The meeting also touched on energy cooperation at the regional level and the latest progress in the State's efforts to become a regional oil and natural gas hub.
