Sisi, UNHCR Chief Discuss Refugee Crisis

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi recently met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, to discuss the ongoing refugee crisis. Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry was also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for Egypt's long-standing cooperation with the UNHCR and its efforts to address the global refugee crisis. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of displacement, including conflict resolution, political stability, and sustainable development.

Mr. Grandi confirmed the UNHCR's interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt, praising its key role in the region and internationally. He also acknowledged Egypt's significant efforts in hosting refugees from various nationalities and stressed the importance of international support for countries hosting refugees.

The meeting also focused on ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the UNHCR, given the significant burden borne by Egypt as a destination for refugees. The ongoing displacement crisis in Sudan was also discussed, with Mr. Grandi commending Egypt's intensive efforts to help resolve the crisis and restore stability.

The meeting highlights the importance of global cooperation and support for countries hosting refugees, as well as the need for a comprehensive approach to address the underlying causes of displacement.
