President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi said.
They discussed the latest developments of the Libyan crisis, as they agreed on intensifying joint efforts to reach a comprehensive solution to the issue, in a way that restores stability in Libya, supports its national capabilities and institutions, and preserves its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and resources.
They also addressed the latest developments related to the ongoing investigations in Regeni case. In this regard, President Sisi stressed full support for the current joint cooperation of the competent authorities in both Egypt and Italy to reveal the truth.
The Italian Prime Minister arrived in Cairo on Monday evening, to meet a number of officials to discuss ways of cooperation and the latest developments in Libya.
Noteworthy, Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), left Moscow along with the accompanying delegation following bilateral talks with Russians on Monday. However Libya’s warring leaders failed to agree on an unconditional and open-ended ceasefire, it’s said that they made some progress at the indirect peace talks in Moscow.
Eastern Libyan forces said they are “ready and determined” to achieve victory, the forces’ official Facebook website said on Tuesday.
It gave no details but another website linked to the force said Haftar will not sign the Russo-Turkey ceasefire proposal.
Moscow, which mediated the talks together with Turkey, hosted talks for about eight hours. Fayez al-Sarraj, who heads Libya’s Tripoli-based government, signed a ceasefire agreement at the talks, While Haftar asked for more time to consider the ceasefire.
Russia and Turkey urged the rivals to sign a binding truce to end a nine-month-old war and pave the way for a settlement that would stabilize the country.
