President Abdel Fattah El Sisi was convened on Saturday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, and Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, in the presence of Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Urban Planning.

“The meeting dealt with a review of the work strategy during the coming period in the construction and building sites in light of the implications of the novel Corona virus crisis,” said Spokesman for the Presidency Bassam Rady.

Rady added that “In this context, the president directed the concerned authorities to postpone the activities and inaugurations of the major national projects that were supposed to be carried out during the current year, 2020, to the next year 2021.”

The inauguration postponement includes the opening of the new administrative capital, as well as the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum , widely known as GEM, and the Museum of Egyptian Civilization.

“President Sisi also called for the implementation of the highest levels of precautionary measures to provide safety and health care requirements for site personnel and maintain their safety,” Rady added.

On his part, the Minister of Housing reviewed the construction executive position in both the administrative capital and the new science city, as well as the results of his recent meetings with officials of companies operating in different locations in light of the implications of the Corona virus, in order to ensure the continuity of work on the sites, while preserving the safety of workers.

The meeting also witnessed the presentation of the situation with regard to the project of developing historical Cairo sites, especially Tahrir Square, as well as the efforts of the Ministry of Housing regarding future preparation for the mitigation of the effects of floods.
