President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated Monday the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019, taking place in Sharm El Sheikh Resort City, Egypt, from October 28 to November 22.

The World Radiocommunication Conference 2019 (WRC-19) will play a key role in shaping the technical and regulatory framework for the provision of radiocommunication services in all countries.

The Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik toured the city on Sunday and inspected all needed preparations before launching the conference.

He checked the police checkpoints, inspection centers and speed operations forces.

“Throughout the past 20 years, the conference used to be held at the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva,” said Egypt’s Minister of Communication Amr Tallat.

Tallat noted that holding the conference in Egypt is a response to an invitation directed by President Sisi to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) president in 2016.

Originally founded in 1865 to promote cooperation among international telegraphy networks of the day, ITU predates many other standardization bodies and its long and distinguished history contains a number of important 'firsts', such as the standardization of the use of the Morse code and the world's first radiocommunication and fixed telecommunication networks.

ITU's global membership includes 193 Member States as well as some 900 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations.

In 2020, The 17th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 15 to 17 April.

WTIS-20 is organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

WTIS is open to all ITU members as well as to experts in the subject of information society measurement. The Symposium is usually attended by around 500 participants from more than 100 countries working on ICT statistics in relevant Ministries, regulatory agencies, telecommunication operators, technology companies, and national statistical offices.
