President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Thursday from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Rady stated that the call dealt with exchanging congratulations on the occasion of the signing of the agreement defining the maritime borders between Egypt and Greece in Cairo.
On August 6, the two countries’ foreign ministers signed a maritime demarcation deal which reflected the distinction of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the availability of strong political will to advance it at various levels.
“It was agreed during the call that the signing of the maritime border agreement between the two countries is a historical development of bilateral relations,” Rady added.
The agreement contributes to achieving security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region, as well as providing Egypt and Greece with the opportunity to exploit their natural resources to achieve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
The contact also witnessed an exchange of views on some regional files of common interest, including developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Sisi and Mitsotakis agreed on the need to intensify coordination in this regard, taking into account the consistency of interests and common positions between the two countries.
