President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Dubravka Šuica, EU Commissioner for Mediterranean, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs.
The Presidential Spokesperson stated that Sisi highlighted the establishment of EU Commissioner for Mediterranean position as a positive step toward strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Mediterranean countries.
He emphasized the momentum in Egypt-EU relations, especially after their upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2024, stressing the importance of intensifying joint efforts to implement the pillars of this partnership.
The meeting also addressed migration cooperation, underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach that links migration to development, promotes legal migration, and tackles the root causes of irregular migration.
Additionally, EU Commissioner listened to President El-Sisi’s views on developments in Gaza, including Egypt's efforts to implement a ceasefire agreement, facilitate hostage and detainee exchanges, and deliver humanitarian aid.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza without the displacement of Palestinians.
The EU official expressed appreciation for Egypt's role, emphasizing the EU’s support for efforts to restore calm, ensure stability, and achieve a two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace in the region.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on Libya, Sudan, and Syria, with both sides stressing the need to stabilize these nations and ensure the safety of their citizens.
The EU Commissioner reaffirmed the importance of EU-Egypt relations, recognizing Egypt’s pivotal role in maintaining regional security and stability.
She also expressed the EU’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment ties with Egypt, aligning economic cooperation with the strong political momentum in bilateral relations.
