Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call on Sunday from Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, during which the two leaders discussed regional developments and efforts to contain escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to Egyptian presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of preventing further escalation in the region and reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent position calling for the resolution of crises through peaceful means.
The Egyptian president warned that continued escalation could expose the region to further instability and threaten the future and resources of its peoples.
El-Sisi also reiterated Egypt’s firm support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, expressing full solidarity with Arab countries and rejecting any attacks against them.
He cautioned that the ongoing escalation could carry significant economic consequences at both the regional and global levels, noting that Egypt is maintaining intensive contacts with various parties to help de-escalate tensions.
For his part, President Christodoulides praised Egypt’s diplomatic efforts aimed at containing the crisis and emphasized Cyprus’ commitment to maintaining close consultations with Cairo regarding regional developments.
Both leaders stressed the importance of adhering to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and moving forward with the second phase of the deal, including the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and the rapid start of early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
The call also addressed ways to further strengthen the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, as well as Egypt’s ties with the European Union, particularly as Cyprus currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council.
