Sisi Affirms Full Support for Alexandria Bibliotheca

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with members of Board of Trustees of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which includes a group of prominent international personalities and a number of senior Egyptian and foreign scholars and thinkers, according to Presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

Among the attendees are Magdi Yacoub, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, former Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Miguel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Mufid Chehab, Mohammed Benaissa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Morocco, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, former Minister and former President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Engineer Hani Azar, Amina Mohammed, former Kenyan Minister of Culture, and Samia Nkrumah, former President of the People's Congress Party in Ghana.

On his part, Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of  Alexandria Bibliotheca expressed appreciation for the unlimited support provided by President Sisi to the Library, believing in its role in producing knowledge and consolidating the values ​​of science and culture, not only at the local level but also at the Arab, African, Mediterranean and international levels.

In this regard, he reviewed the library's efforts during the past period in performing its mission, and explained its future plans to deepen its role and increase its cultural radiation.

During the meeting, the President was keen to listen to the visions and ideas of  Board of Trustees' members, as they indicated that the library represents a unique case at the civilized level, as it accurately reflects Egypt's role as a historical center of enlightenment for meeting and interaction between the cultures of East and West, North and South.

They also expressing their deep honor for their membership in the Board of Trustees of this distinguished edifice, affirming their intention to make every effort to achieve a strong boost in the scope of work and impact of the library during the next stage.

On his part, Sisi appreciated the efforts of  Alexandria Bibliotheca to spread science and knowledge, pointing out that it is integrated with the state's endeavors in this context to build bridges between nations and civilizations, and to affirm the concepts of pluralism, peace, dialogue, understanding, and respect for the cultures of all peoples

He also stressed the state's full support for the library and its important role, pointing to the importance of continuous renewal in its frameworks and methods of work, and its support for new research programs and innovative teaching patterns, as well as stimulating the capabilities of young people and developing their creative skills, while working to generalize the role of the library in this regard, to include supporting creativity and innovation at the national, regional and global levels.
