Today, Wednesday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the call comes within the framework of following up the last meeting between Shoukry and Pedersen in Geneva on May 25, and the continuous coordination between Egypt and the United Nations to reach a political solution in Syria.
Abu Zaid added that the two sides discussed all the contacts and meetings that were held over the past period by the various parties, and ways to bridge the gap between the various positions in order to bring closer the visions on dealing with the Syrian crisis in a gradual manner in order to solve it.
The two sides also discussed means of working on a step-by-step approach and coordination in this regard between the Arab Ministerial Committee concerned with Syria and the United Nations in order to harmonize efforts to advance this approach. In this regard, Pedersen expressed his full appreciation and confidence in Egypt's keenness to continue work and coordination with The United Nations in order to uphold the interest of the Syrian people and end this crisis.
