Diplomatic Sources told Sada ElBaladEnglish (SEE) that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is expected to visit Singapore next Thursday.

During his visit, Shoukry will hold meetings with Singaporean officials. He will discuss ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in several fields.

It is worth noting that the bilateral relations between Egypt and Singapore were established on 22 November 1966, almost a year after the independence of Singapore in August 1965.

Egypt was amongst the first countries to recognize the independence of Singapore at a time when the destiny of its independence was uncertain.

That uncertainty was aggravated by the paucity of natural resources, the communist upsurge in Southeast Asia, in addition to ethnical and religious rifts that created fault lines within the Singaporean society, in a way that threatened the country's recent independence.
