Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from South Sudan Acting Foreign Minister Deng Dau Deng, to consult on the current crisis in Sudan.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that the call tackled the efforts made by both sides to promote and support a permanent ceasefire in Sudan, based on the initiative that was agreed upon during the phone call between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir on April 16.
On his part, Shoukry stressed that Egypt and South Sudan are among the countries most affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, especially in light of the existence of large common borders between the two countries and the State of Sudan, stressing that the interest of the brotherly Sudanese people remains the main concern.
In addition, both officials agreed to intensify communication and coordination between the two sides during the coming period.
