On Wednesday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt continues to exert utmost efforts to communicate with all parties, in order to put an end to the current crisis in Lebanon.
After his meeting with the Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, Shoukry said "Lebanon still faces a state of political impasse, stressing the need that further efforts must be exerted by a competent government capable of meeting the needs of the people and achieving important stability in the country and the whole Arab region, including Egypt."
Shoukry pointed out that he will hold a series of meetings with many political figures, to convey a message of Egypt's solidarity and support to the Lebanese leadership to get out of this crisis and form the government, which opens the door for regional and international support and achieving the common interest of the Lebanese people and the countries of the region.
The Egyptian top diplomat will also meet with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, in addition to the Maronite Patriarch, Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, with the aim of urging the political forces to intensify their efforts to form a rescue government that leads to a solution to the political and economic crisis in Lebanon.
Shoukry arrived in Beirut earlier today in an official visit aiming to reaffirm Egypt's support for Lebanon to overcome its current crisis through forming a government by Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri.
Al-Hariri was named premier for the fourth time in October after his successor stepped down following the massive 4 August explosion in Beirut's port, which was caused by thousands of explosive chemicals that had been stored in a warehouse there for years.
He has pledged to quickly form a new government of specialists that would enact reforms and stop the country's economic collapse.
Egypt has launched an air bridge to deliver medical aid and foodstuffs to Lebanon on the heels of the deadly blast that killed over 200 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless.
