Shoukry Receives Phone Call from Italian Counterpart

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received today a phone call from Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio to discuss a number of regional issues, especially the developments in Libya and Tunisia.

The Italian minister briefed Shoukry on the outcomes of his recent visit to Libya and his meetings with various parties there.

On his part, Shoukry stressed the importance of committing to the roadmap approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and Security Council Resolution 2570. Regarding holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on their scheduled date on December 24, 2021, and that all foreign forces and mercenaries must leave Libya without delay.

They also discussed the developments of the Tunisian scene, as Shoukry stressed the importance of supporting stability and the legitimate aspirations of the people there, stressing Egypt's solidarity with all the measures taken by President Kais Saied in order to respond to the hopes of the brotherly Tunisian people within the framework of respecting their free will, and in a manner that preserves state institutions.
