On Sunday, Foreign minister Sameh Shoukry headed to New York in the framework of preparing for the session that the Security Council scheduled to held on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) due to Egypt and Sudan’s request (GERD)
Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Hafez stated that Shoukry is also scheduled to hold a series of intensive meetings in New York with a number of his counterparts, permanent delegates of Security Council member states, and United Nations officials.
In a call phone with Hadeith Al-Kahirah talk show program, Shoukry said that the unprecedented Security Council session may impose a change in the negotiations.
He added that such a change may push the three countries to negotiate. The 15-member council will be able to settle any conflict that may erupt between the three countries.
Notably, Shoukry met with his American counterpart Antony Blinken, last week, to discuss bilateral relations, the resumption of negotiations towards the latest issues between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia over the disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
“During their meeting today, Shoukry suggested that it is time for Egypt to reinvigorate ties with the U.S and called for top leaders from both countries to deliberate on this,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Monday.
