Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry headed to Barcelona, on Sunday, to participate in the 6th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Shoukry is also scheduled to attend a ministerial meeting between the European Union and neighboring countries besides the forum.
"The minister will stress the importance of the "Union for the Mediterranean", as a fundamental framework for regional cooperation across the two shores of the Mediterranean in several areas, most notably the environment, climate change, economic and social development, digital transformation, and the exchange of technical expertise," Hafez noted.
During the ministerial meeting, Shoukry will address the Egyptian priorities for cooperation with the European side in many areas based on the principle of joint ownership, according to the statement.
Moreover, he will emphasize the necessity to increase European investments in Egypt and the countries of the southern neighborhood, as well as enhancing access to the exports of these countries to European markets in order to support its efforts in achieving development goals.
The Forum will take place tomorrow on 29 November in Barcelona, Spain, to celebrate the first Day of the Mediterranean. In like manner, the ministry lighted up its HQ with "MED Day" yesterday, celebrating the Mediterranean Day.
