On Monday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a call with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son, on the sidelines of his current visit to New York in order to participate in the Security Council session on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
During the call, Shoukry reviewed the firm Egyptian position on the GERD issue, which is based on the need to reach a binding legal agreement on filling and operating the dam, according to a statement by Ahmed Hafez, Official Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the statement, the minister stressed that the legal agreement must achieve the interests of the three countries and takes into account the concerns of the downstream countries.
He expressed Egypt's aspiration to Vietnam, the current member of the Security Council, understands these concerns as also an estuary.
