Shorbagy Claims British National Title in Squash

Mohamed ElShorbagy triumphed in Manchester today, claiming his first British national title in front of a crowded house at the National Squash Center.

Just two weeks after switching his allegiance to England from Egypt, world number three Mohamed El Shorbagy secured the British National Championship title at the first attempt by defeating defending champion Joel Makin in the final.

El Shorbagy, who holds British citizenship, decided to represent England at the international level, which sparked a wave of anger in Egyptian sports circles.

The Egyptian player’s decision sparked angry reactions in the sports community, as the Egyptian “Heliopolis Club” terminated his contract with the player, and the Egyptian Squash Federation issued a statement regarding the incident.
