His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, issued Amiri Decision No. 64 of 2025, appointing Mr. Tariq Ali Faraj Hashim Al-Ansari as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada.
The appointment reflects Al-Ansari’s distinguished career within the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), where he has held several high-ranking diplomatic posts, most recently serving as Qatar's Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
A Distinguished Diplomatic Career
Ambassador Al-Ansari brings extensive international experience to his new role in Ottawa, having previously served in the following capacities:
* Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of South Africa.
* Director of the International Cooperation Department at MOFA.
* Director of the International Technical Cooperation Department.
* Chief of Staff to the UN High Representative in New York.
* Vice President of the Office of the UN General Assembly.
* Counselor at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations.
Career Progression and Academic Background
Al-Ansari rose through the ranks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, starting as a Third and Second Secretary in the Administrative and Financial Affairs Department. He also served as First Secretary and Inspector in the Financial and Administrative Inspection Office, before being promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary in 2011.
Academic Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University, USA (2014).
Bachelor’s Degree in Administration and Economics (1996).
