The United States Expressed on Friday its lack of support for calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The US Ambassador and Deputy Representative of the United States Robert Wood said in the emergency session of the Security Council that the United States’ failure to support calls for a ceasefire is because this will plant the seeds of the next war as Hamas does not want to see a lasting peace or see a two-state solution - according to what It was stated on the United Nations website.
The ambassador said that Israel must respect international humanitarian law and conduct its operations in a way that minimizes harm to civilians.
"We also stressed that Israel must avoid further mass displacement of civilians in southern Gaza, many of whom had previously fled violence, and Israel must also ensure that there is sufficient humanitarian support for displaced individuals," he added.
He also noted that displaced civilians in Gaza must have the opportunity to return as soon as conditions allow.
"There should be no permanent displacement or reduction in the territory of Gaza. Under no circumstances will the United States support the forced transfer of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank," Wood said.
