The Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) chaired by Dr. Khalid Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held a meeting to discuss final exams.
Dr. Mohamed Latif, the Secretary-General of the Council and university presidents attended that meeting.
The university presidents briefed the minister on regularity of the progress of the evaluation process for students of transportation years in accordance with the rules and procedures previously approved by the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU).
They revealed the latest preparations taken by universities for examinations of colleges in the second semester of the academic year 2019/20.
Examinations begin at universities and institutes as of 1/7/2020, and it is left to university councils to adopt the dates and schedules of the second semester exams in the various colleges in the university according to the circumstances of each university separately.
The council started its meeting by adopting recommendations represented by a committee of experts.
It recommended to extend the academic year for this year to 15/5/2020 due to the fact that the examinations will run this year beyond 7/31/2020 due to the current conditions.
The council recommended to take to take to account public interest to give opportunity to all colleges to complete the exam work.
Students who do not wish to sit to exams for this semester due to the current conditions associated with the Coronavirus may submit an application to the college councils before the start of the exam date and according to the dates decided by the college councils.
In view of the circumstances of the flight ban and its irregularity, students of final years of expatriates who are abroad may take exams according to the schedules announced by universities and those who are unable to attend will be examined in the first term following their attendance when air traffic is organized and the air ban is lifted.
Universities will take charge of organizing exams for postgraduate studies in accordance with the capacity of the campus, and in a way that achieves the precautionary conditions approved by the university’s council.
The exams will be conducted according to the conditions of each university, preferably not coinciding with the exams of the undergraduate stage.
In the context of the Council’s keenness on the interest of students holding the American diploma, the work of the Coordination Office will be extended for this year after the two SAT2 exams scheduled to be held during August and September 2020.
For students holding English high school diploma, the assessment of the role of June 2020 accredited by international accreditation bodies (Cambridge - Pearson - Oxford) is taken after approval by the British Council.
As for other students wishing to take the exams in October / November (whose results will be announced in January), they are accepted into the Egyptian government universities with distinguished programs in the second semester (for colleges whose regulations allow this), provided that this is in light of the minimum sector for the year the university 2020/2021.
The results of five exams at most be counted among the exams that students performed in the last four-year period prior to applying to the Coordination Office.
The Coordination Office continues to receive requests of students with certificates equivalent to high school diploma from those countries until exam results announced to them no later than 11/30/2020; if they submit to the Coordination Office after this date, they will be admitted to state-run universities except for the distinguished programs in colleges whose internal regulations allow admission to the second semester.
This will be in light of the minimum admission to the sector or their acceptance in the academic year 2021/2022.
