The Scottish Premiership has once again cemented its reputation as Europe’s most popular league in terms of fan attendance, leading the continental charts for the third season in a row.
According to official figures released by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), the 2024/25 season recorded an average of 18.5 spectators per 1,000 people, marking a 5% increase from the previous year. In total, more than 5.3 million fans attended matches, a record and an increase of around 185,000 compared to last season.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster, speaking to Sky Sports, hailed the achievement:
“It’s fantastic to see the William Hill Scottish Premiership maintain such a commanding lead in European attendance figures.
The passion of our supporters is well-known and deeply rooted, and they deserve enormous credit for their commitment and ongoing support of our national game.”
He added that the league’s continued success highlights the strong connection between Scottish fans and their local clubs, stressing that the SPFL is determined to build on this momentum heading into the new campaign.
