German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to travel to Kyiv with French and Italian leaders before the Group of Seven (G7) summit at the end of June.
The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag reported on Saturday that Scholz will head to Ukraine with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and French President Emmanuel Macron, citing French and Ukrainian government sources.
A German government spokesperson told Reuters: "We are not able to confirm this." Asked by Reuters, the Elysee palace declined to confirm the information. The Italian government did not immediately comment as well.
On Friday, Le Figaro reported that Macron will visit the Ukrainian capital next Wednesday.
In May, Donald Trump Jr., former U.S. President Donald Trump’s son, made fun of American politicians who met the Ukrainian leader in Kyiv amid the Russian invasion.
Trump Jr. mocked Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Instagram for visiting Kyiv and meeting with Zelenskyy.
He published a photo collage of pictures of the summit in Kiev and a frame with an elderly American protesting against the Biden administration, captioning the post; “Perspective is everything!”
In the photo, you can see the woman standing peacefully with the US flag in her hands and smiling at the camera lens. “The same politicians that were scared of this …find it safe to visit an ‘active zone zone’?” Trump Jr wrote.
