Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of five hostile drones near Prince Sultan Air Base, according to a breaking report carried by Al Qahera News.
The ministry said air defense systems successfully intercepted the unmanned aerial vehicles before they could reach their intended targets, amid heightened regional alert levels.
In a related development, Reuters reported that Saudi Aramco temporarily shut down a refinery at Ras Tanura as a precautionary measure following a drone attack near the site. A source familiar with the matter said the suspension was intended to assess potential damage and ensure the safety of facilities and personnel.
The incidents come as tensions across the region continue to escalate. Earlier Monday, Iran launched what was described as a large-scale attack targeting Israel and US bases in several countries, prompting widespread air defense activation.
The developments follow major US and Israeli strikes on Iran over the weekend that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior officials — a claim that has fueled sharp regional reactions.
