The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Saudi Arabia's decision to resume diplomatic operations in Kabul after more than three years of suspension.

This decision follows the withdrawal of Saudi diplomats in August 2021 when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

A spokesperson for the Afghan ministry, Zia Ahmad, expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan through the resumption of diplomatic activities.

Ahmad also noted that this move would enhance the ability to address issues concerning Afghan nationals residing in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Embassy in Kabul confirmed the resumption of its diplomatic mission via a statement on social media, announcing that from December 22, 2024, its mission would once again offer services to the Afghan people.

Saudi Arabia initially withdrew its diplomats from Kabul in August 2021 due to the unstable situation following the Taliban's takeover.

However, in November 2021, the Kingdom resumed consular services in Kabul to continue providing vital assistance to Afghan citizens.
