Saudi air defenses intercepted 20 drones and two ballistic missiles on Wednesday amid rising regional tensions, according to media reports.

Al Arabiya reported that Saudi defense systems successfully shot down the drones and missiles during attempted attacks targeting areas within the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said its air defenses also intercepted two ballistic missiles, a cruise missile, and several drones launched from Iran. Authorities confirmed that the projectiles were neutralized without reporting casualties.

Saudi officials also announced the interception of another drone over the Empty Quarter desert that was heading toward the Shaybah oil field, one of the Kingdom’s major energy facilities.

The developments come as regional security tensions remain high following a series of missile and drone attacks across the Middle East.

In a related statement, the US Treasury Secretary said it had always been part of Washington’s strategy for the US Navy or an international coalition to escort oil tankers in order to protect global energy shipments.
