On Saturday, South Korean authorities reported that the death toll from the wildfires sweeping through the southeastern regions of the country jumped to 30.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as reported by Korea's KBS Radio, the raging wildfires across 11 locations in southeastern South Korea have burned more than 48,000 hectares of land and destroyed approximately 4,800 structures, including homes, factories, and cultural heritage sites.

The headquarters also stated that 6,885 evacuees have yet to return to their homes. The northern part of North Gyeongsang Province, particularly the Weseong area, has been the hardest hit, with at least 26 fatalities and around 45,000 hectares of land destroyed in that region alone.

Meanwhile, firefighters continue their efforts to contain the blazes, with 97% of the fires in the Sanchong and Hadong areas brought under control as of noon local time.
