South Korea’s National Assembly has voted to impeach Acting President Han Duck-soo, with 192 lawmakers supporting the motion, surpassing the 151 votes needed for approval.
The vote came after a boycott from members of the ruling party.
Han, who accepted the decision, expressed his respect for the parliamentary move and pledged to step down "in accordance with the law" to avoid further political turmoil.
His impeachment now faces review by the Constitutional Court, a process that could take up to 180 days.
Han's removal follows the suspension of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s authority on December 14. Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok is expected to assume the role of acting president.
