Vadim Pokrovsky, head of the AIDS Prevention and Control Center at the Russian Central Institute of Epidemiology, pointed out that the rate of spread of the coronavirus could slow its spread and then begin to gradually disappear.
The academic, also member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, assumed that the pandemic could slow its spread in 2021, and then begins to "disappear".
The head of the Federal Center for AIDS Prevention and Control affiliated to the Central Institute for Epidemiological Research at the Russian Authority for the Protection of Consumer Rights and Citizen Welfare said: "Next year we will witness the demise of the Coronavirus pandemic, and everyone will breathe a sigh of relief."
It is noteworthy that about 81 million people in the world have been infected with the Coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic, and more than 1.7 million people have died.
On the other hand, Pavel Volchkov, head of the Genomic Engineering Laboratory in Russia, said that the "British" strain of Coronavirus is 80% similar to the strain circulating in Russia.
The Russian specialist indicated that the existing differences are not sufficient to overcome the immune reaction to the developed vaccines.
He said it would be possible to talk about more dangerous mutations with the emergence of highly targeted drugs that would make the infection develop. However, such an order should not be expected in the near future.
Earlier, media reports stated that the same type of "British virus" had appeared in Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, France, Japan, and Singapore.
The first appearance of the mutated strain was in England (Britain), where it has been identified since last September.
