Admiral Viktor Sokolov, the leader of the Black Sea Fleet for Russia, was recently shown in a video broadcasted by Russian state media participating in a virtual meeting with defense officials.
This comes a day after Ukraine's elite troops announced they had executed him in a missile strike.
The footage distributed by Russia's defense department depicted Sokolov in a session with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and other military higher-ups.
He, however, remained silent during this interaction. The exact timing of this video is uncertain.
Ukraine had previously asserted that a missile offensive on the Russian Black Sea Fleet's base in Sevastopol, Crimea, led to the demise of Sokolov and 33 other officers.
Ukrainian forces have since remarked they are reassessing the data following the Russian footage release.
While the Kremlin's representative, Dmitry Peskov, opted not to address Ukraine's statements, Ukrainian Defense Chief Rustem Umerov insinuated that if Sokolov were no longer alive, it would be a universally favorable outcome, pointing to the disputed territories.
Furthermore, Shoigu asserted a substantial loss on the Ukrainian side, suggesting a death toll of over 17,000 soldiers for the month and the destruction of multiple armaments, inclusive of seven US Bradley combat vehicles.
The backdrop to these mutual allegations is a multifaceted and evolving warfare, making it arduous to conclusively authenticate the facts.
