Russia deployed its lethal anti-tank mine, which can blast 100ft in the air and fire explosives from above, in Ukraine for the first time, The Sun reported on Friday.
The report indicated that the so-called "smart-mine", which is triggered when its target gets within 100m, had never been used on the battlefield before.
Russia's PTKM-1R top-attack mine launches itself into the air, scenes the ground for its target, and then fires an explosive slug from above.

In 2020, the Russian army introduced the mine that is similar to the US M-93 "Hornet" wide-area munition. It has sensors that observe the sound of approaching vehicles, interpreting the vibrations to detect whether or not a tank is rolling by.
Pictures were shared on Twitter of one of the mines placed in a field in Ukraine, reportedly taken three days ago.

In the meantime, the Netherlands will send a forensic team from the national military police to Ukraine to help investigate possible war crimes, according to the Dutch press agency ANP.
The military team would leave for Ukraine to help the International Criminal Court (ICC) gather evidence at sites where war crimes may have been committed, ANP cited sources close to the matter.
The sources noted that the Dutch government will make a final decision on the mission on Friday.
