Russia's Gazprom Export will halt gas supplies to the Dutch gas trader Gasterra due to its failure to pay for gas supplied in April and the refusal to pay in Rubles.

"Gazprom Export did not receive the payment for gas deliveries in April as of the close of business of May 30 (the due date stipulated in the contract)," the Russian gas export company said in a statement on Monday.

"In this regard, Gazprom Export notified Gasterra about suspension of gas supplies from May 31 and until the moment of payment in accordance with the procedure" set by the executive order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the company added.

Moscow exported about 6.7 bln cubic meters of natural gas to the Netherlands in 2021, according to the Russian customs service.

Last April, Putin affirmed that Moscow would work to redirect its energy exports eastward, adding that the European nations cannot ditch gas immediately.

The European countries have imposed heavy sanctions on Moscow in response to its invasion of Ukraine, a step that made the latter stop supplying its gas to what it called “unfriendly countries” after

“The so-called partners from unfriendly countries concede themselves that they won’t be able to make do without Russian energy resources, including without natural gas, for example,” Putin told a televised government meeting. “There is no rational replacement in Europe now.”
