The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the conflict in Gaza and the release of detainees, including Russians, in a phone conversation with his Israeli counterpart Yisrael Katz on Friday.

In a statement, the ministry said that the two ministers "exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, focusing on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in light of the ongoing military operation in Gaza and the escalating tensions in the West Bank and the Israeli-Lebanese border area."

The ministry added that "the Russian side emphasized the need to immediately end military operations and ensure appropriate conditions for urgent humanitarian assistance to all those in need."

According to the ministry, the parties paid special attention to the release of Russian citizens held in Gaza, confirming the importance of continuing intensive efforts to rescue all detainees. The ministers also discussed some current issues on the bilateral agenda.
