The Russian Foreign Ministry's Special Envoy and Secretary of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Oleg Ozerov, announced that Russia is preparing to open embassies in nearly all African countries.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the Russian diplomat said work is underway to prepare the relevant decisions. “We will start with a certain number, but I hope that eventually, we will open embassies in almost all African countries.” He added.

Ozerov also described the decision to close Russian diplomatic missions in Africa in the 1990s as "an incorrect move." With this new development, Russia is taking significant steps to bolster its presence and strengthen diplomatic ties with African nations.

The forthcoming Russia-Africa Summit will take place in St. Petersburg from the 26th to the 29th of July, marking another milestone in Russia's engagement with the African continent.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously announced that preparations for the summit include the drafting of an extensive statement outlining the cooperation pathways between Russia and African countries for the coming years.
