The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that the ministry will establish a center for the science and production of drones and "robotic device assemblies," according to Reuters.
The defense ministry stated that Shoigu inspected a test range for firearms and drones in the Moscow military district.
Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the deployment of drones has continued on an unprecedented scale, with thousands of remotely controlled vehicles being used to track enemy forces and direct artillery and explosives.
Small, low-cost drones have emerged as weapons in this war, which has seen traditional warplanes used only rarely due to the heavy concentration of anti-aircraft systems near the front lines.
At the test range, Shoigu inspected firearms for dealing with such drones, as well as a quadcopter drone designed for mine planting.
