The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 24 Ukrainian drones across several Russian border regions over a nine-hour period.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were neutralized between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Moscow time on January 31. The official breakdown of the interceptions included nine drones over the Kursk region, nine over Belgorod, five over Bryansk, and one over the Lipetsk region.
Russian state news agency TASS reported that the operations were part of an ongoing effort to repel cross-border aerial incursions.
Advancements in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk
In addition to the aerial reports, the Ministry of Defense highlighted significant shifts on the ground. Russian forces claimed the "liberation" of two strategic settlements within the last 24 hours as part of their "Special Military Operation."
Military officials stated that units from the "Central" grouping took control of the town of Toretske in the Donetsk People's Republic. Simultaneously, units from the "East" grouping reportedly advanced deeper into Ukrainian defensive lines to secure the village of Petrovka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The intensification of drone warfare and the reported territorial shifts underscore the volatile nature of the current conflict as both sides continue to leverage long-range technology and heavy infantry maneuvers.
