Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said that allegations that Russia may use nuclear weapons in Ukraine have no rationale.

"Contrary to the slanders that are being expressed and declared, Russia will not use nuclear capabilities (its nuclear weapons) and will not use them unless in response to the use of nuclear weapons and other types of weapons of mass destruction against it," Polyansky added at a meeting of the United Nations Disarmament Committee. Or in the event of aggression against it and a threat to its existence by using conventional weapons against it.”

According to him, "In no way can these criteria be applied to the scenario currently developing in Ukraine. Moreover, Russia adheres firmly to the principle that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, and such a war should not be unleashed."

The Russian deputy delegate stressed that the arguments about the alleged possibility of Russia's use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine have no rational basis, explaining that "they are aimed at provoking a degree of anti-Russian hysteria.
