The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the successful liberation of two strategically significant settlements in the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions. According to the official military bulletin, Russian units made decisive advances across multiple fronts, reportedly neutralizing approximately 2,650 Ukrainian personnel in a single day of intense combat.
Strategic Breakthroughs in Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv In the Zaporizhzhia sector, units from the Russian "Dnipro" group secured the town of Novoyakovlivka. Military analysts suggest the capture of this settlement strengthens Russia's defensive line in the region while providing a platform for further offensive maneuvers toward the administrative borders of the province.
Simultaneously, in the Kharkiv region, the "West" group of forces successfully took control of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi. This town is a critical railway hub; its liberation significantly disrupts Ukrainian logistics and supply chains in the northeastern theater of operations.
Casualty Reports and Hardware Losses The Ministry’s statement, released via Sputnik, detailed heavy losses for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) across various combat zones:
Donetsk Sector: The "South" group improved its tactical positions near Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk, reportedly neutralizing formations from three mechanized brigades. Ukraine’s losses in this area included 120 soldiers and 19 vehicles.
Central Sector: Forces from the "Center" group engaged seven mechanized assault brigades. The AFU reportedly lost over 415 soldiers, one tank, and eight armored fighting vehicles in this sector alone.
Northern Sector: Approximately 170 Ukrainian personnel were neutralized in the "North" group's area of responsibility over the past 24 hours.
Western Equipment Destroyed The Russian Defense Ministry emphasized the destruction of Western-supplied hardware, which has been a cornerstone of Ukraine’s defense strategy. Reports indicate the neutralization of U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radars and several pieces of NATO-standard field artillery. The Ministry noted that the "Leopard 2" tanks and other British and American armored vehicles continue to be high-priority targets for Russian missile and drone strikes.
As the conflict enters this new phase of territorial shifts, the Kremlin maintains that its objectives for the special military operation remain unchanged, focusing on the systematic dismantling of Ukrainian military infrastructure and the "liberation" of claimed territories.
