Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 99th Portugal goal, guiding his national team to qualify for Euro 2020 after defeating Luxembourg with two unanswered goals on Sunday.

The 34-year-old silenced Luxembourg's fans who chanted Messi's name after he placed his shot way wide of the target.

Bruno Fernandes had given his side the lead in the 39th minute when he fired a right-foot shot from the outside of the box to the left bottom corner netting the first for his side.

Ronaldo scored his 99th Portugal goal in the 86th minute by adding the second to cement his side's lead and to come so close to become the second player in the history to reach 100 international goals.

Juventus' star planted the ball into the net when it was already on its way across the line.

Noteworthy, the 34-year old player netted his 55th hat-trick against Lithuania when he opened the scoring after he converted from a penalty spot, before netting the second through a powerful shot. The Portuguese player scored the sixth goal of the match, netting his 55th hat-trick.

After scoring today's goal, he cemented his position as Euro qualifiers’ all-time top scorers, scoring thirty-one  goal in 34 games, as well as he needs only to score more ten goals to smash Iran’s Ali Daei record, who netted 109 goals.

The European champions now rank second with seventeen points, while Serbia came third with fourteen points after they held a 2-2 draw with Ukraine.
