A third of Jordan's population is non-Jordanian, according to a report by the Higher Population Council. The report reveals that the country's population has reached 11.4 million, with at least one-third of them not holding Jordanian citizenship.
The Secretary-General of the Council, Issa Mansarweh, highlighted that 6 million of the current population have arrived in the last 15 years, and the number of registered births between 2010-2022 was approximately 2.68 million.
The report also notes that the geographic distribution of the population is uneven, with only 8% residing in the southern half of the kingdom. Mansarweh further explained that the age structure in Jordan is young, with 34.4% of the population under 15 years old.
The report highlights that 40% of children in Jordan are under 18 years old, and the unemployment rate among Jordanians was 22.8% in the previous year. Additionally, the report notes that the economic participation rate among Jordanians aged 15 and over was 33.4%, while the economic dependency ratio was 1:4.2.
