When Lionel Messi departed Barcelona last summer, he and the club knew there was a chance he'd return to the Camp Nou one day. It was thought, though, that this would only be as an ambassador or as a director, but the possibility of Messi returning to play for the Blaugrana once more is growing.
It is being reported that Jorge Messi, the player's father and representative, has spoken with Joan Laporta about the possibility.
Messi hasn't had the best of times at Paris Saint-Germain since joining the French club and the Argentine was even whistled over the weekend, with fans unhappy at the club's exit from the Champions League and taking their anger out on the team's highly paid superstars.

The obstacles to Messi's return to Barcelona
As stated by Quim Domenech on El Chiringuito, Messi wants to return to the Camp Nou.
However, getting back to Catalonia won't be easy for Messi, as Neymar knows all too well. PSG wouldn't want to let the forward depart, especially since Kylian Mbappe appears to be on his way out at the Parc des Princes.
Messi signed a two-year deal when he landed in Paris, so PSG can keep him for the 2022/23 season if they want to. The ball is not in Messi's court in that sense.
Then, there's also the matter of whether Xavi would want the Argentine back at the club. Although Xavi and Messi enjoyed so many special moments together as players, the coach knows that his former teammate will turn 35 this summer.
