Jewelry designer Rania Eraky shared that she used to be a tour guide but with the cessation of tourism, she turned to jewelry making.
Eraky underwent two-year training and rehabilitation at the Jewelry Technology Centre affiliated to the Ministry of Trade and Industry and obtained a diploma in design and craftsmanship from the center.
She also received some direct and indirect grants from the Ministry of Industry and the Academy of Scientific Research, including marketing, entrepreneurship, and building small projects.
Eraky indicated that the support she received from grants also included how to choose a name for the project; she established her brand "Meraky", a Latin word meaning "creative spirit".
In an interview with “SEE”, she noted that after her training she joined a gold manufacturing workshop in Al Sagha district to gain more experience and learn more secrets and arts of craftsmanship, and became a craftsperson in a workshop.
Eraky unveiled that she faced another kind of challenge with creating small shapes or what is known as "Miniature" jewelry.
The designer created jewelry pieces in very small sizes that featured a full bathroom with all its functions and a kitchen with its cooking utensils, as well as designing an apartment in a jewelry piece.
She noted that manufacturing these small-sized products requires patience and requires a lot of time to showcase the details accurately, unlike manufacturing the same products in large sizes.
Eraky pointed out that this type of jewelry distinguished her work from other jewelry designers in the market.
The designer explained that she is preparing to launch a new jewelry collection that will feature pieces of silver lace.
Eraky noted that she also created glass jewelry pieces, in which glass is used through the various stages of smelting.
