Quraish Shihab: Islam called for openness to others and the urgent need to benefit from other cultures

 His Excellency Dr. Muhammed Quraish Shihab, member of the Muslim Council of Elders and Indonesia’s former Minister of Religious Affairs has affirmed that Islam called for openness to others and the urgent need to benefit from other cultures of so long as they are characterized by wisdom.

During the 'Values of Humanity with the Elders' program which airs on the Muslim Council of Elders' social media channels during the holy month of Ramadan, Dr. Shihab said, "Wisdom is a gift from Allah that man can take advantage of, and what is a gift of Allah is often timeless as per the Quranic verse, (And whoever is granted wisdom is certainly blessed with a great privilege)"

The member of the Muslim Council of Elders concluded, "Development and renewal cannot clash with religion as long as it is in accordance with human standards and laws. Sacrificing basics for luxury is indeed never wise."

The Muslim Council of Elders’ social media pages will broadcast a total of 5 programs during the holy month of Ramadan which falls in line with the Council’s strategy to employ all avenues to promote the values dialogue, peace and coexistence. Programs include Al-Imam Al-Tayeb, Crescent of Coexistence, Values of Humanity with the Elders, Youth Peacemakers and Think About Your Fasting.
