Queen’s University Belfast welcomed a senior delegation from The British University in Egypt to campus this week, developing collaboration between the two institutions through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The new agreement will focus on expanding educational partnership opportunities, including Queen’s providing academic quality assurance in their world-leading Dentistry and Pharmacy subjects to The British University in Egypt.
Queen’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Ian Greer said of the visit:
“The British University in Egypt is an institution Queen’s already enjoys a strong and highly collegial relationship with. This agreement marks our first major official partnership in Egypt, one which will build on the commitment and expertise of colleagues across both universities.
“I look forward to the opportunities this partnership creates for meaningful student success, enhanced mobility and deeper academic exchange.”
The visit builds on recent global outreach when, last year, a delegation from Queen’s visited Cairo as part of the British Council-funded Transnational Education project which aims to strengthen ties between Northern Ireland and Egypt.
Professor Mohamed Loutfi MBE, President and Vice-Chancellor of The British University in Egypt said:
“We are proud to formalise and deepen our relationship with Queen’s University Belfast, a partner that shares our commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. This agreement represents an important step in strengthening quality assurance in key disciplines such as Dentistry and Pharmacy, while opening new pathways for collaboration, staff development and student opportunity. We look forward to working closely with colleagues at Queen’s to deliver lasting impact for our academic communities in Egypt and the UK.”
The Dentistry and Pharmacy Quality Assurance founded through the partnership will establish a structured framework through which Queen’s provides external moderation for all pharmacy and dentistry programmes at the British University in Egypt, ensuring alignment with UK sector benchmarks and enhancing the student learning experience.
This partnership forms part of Queen’s wider global engagement strategy, which seeks to develop impactful, long-term collaborations with leading international institutions by combining academic excellence with a shared commitment to quality and innovation.
