Qatar has donated portacabins and mobile homes used for last year's World Cup soccer tournament to earthquake zones in Turkey and Syria where they will accommodate people left homeless.

Qatar Fund for Development said, on Twitter, that "Qatar has pledged to send ten thousand mobile homes to these areas," noting that "the first batch of 306 furnished containers equipped with a kitchen and toilet was loaded onto the ship last Sunday."

On the sixth of February, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Turkiye and Syria, followed by several strong aftershocks.

The earthquake in Turkiye and Syria caused severe damage to thousands of buildings, including schools, healthcare facilities, and other public infrastructure such as roads, airports, ports, oil terminals, power lines, water supply, and sanitation.

Rescue work is still underway to search for survivors under huge piles of rubble in the quake-stricken areas of Syria and Turkiye.

After the earthquake, Qatar announced the allocation of 10,000 mobile homes to be sent to the earthquake-affected areas, stressing that "the rest of the homes are scheduled to be sent successively during the coming days, according to logistical capabilities."
