Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the success of the artificial intelligence (AI) sphere will largely determine Russia's future position worldwide.
"The value of breakthroughs in the artificial intelligence sphere is tremendous," Putin said during the AI Journey Conference.
He added: "The competition among states is simply fierce. The place of Russia in the world, our sovereignty, security, and soundness of our country depends on results we will attain."
The Russian leader highlighted the importance to expand Moscow's efforts in developing AI.
"We are one step ahead of certain other countries in a number of directions in this sphere. We should definitely ramp up our efforts," Putin noted.
He concluded that Russia "still needs to catch up" in certain other spheres.
