President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Muhammed Shia al-Sudani, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the Arab League Council. The two leaders discussed the upcoming first Russian–Arab Summit, which had been scheduled to take place in Moscow on October 15, 2025.

During the call, both sides acknowledged that the situation in the Middle East had shifted significantly with the beginning of the active phase of the Gaza peace plan, led by U.S. President Donald Trump. Given the momentum behind the ceasefire negotiations and the need for Arab leaders to remain engaged in pressing regional diplomacy, Putin and al-Sudani agreed that many of the invited Arab heads of state would find it difficult to travel to Moscow at this time.

In light of these developments, the Russian and Iraqi sides jointly concluded that it would be appropriate to postpone the summit to a later date, which will be coordinated and confirmed through diplomatic channels.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of ensuring the broad participation of Arab League member states and agreed that holding the summit under more stable and inclusive circumstances would better serve its strategic purpose. Russia and Iraq will now begin informing the capitals of all Arab states about the decision through formal diplomatic communications.
