Ptolemy XII Temple Restoration Completed in Sohag

Egyptian-German team completed the restoration of Ptolemy XII temple in Atrips, southwest of Sohag.

Ghareeb Senbel, the Central administration head for restoration, reported that the temple was damaged and in a poor state. It had cracks and lost some inscriptions and colors due to direct exposure to sunlight and rainwater.

Senbel explained that the renovation began on October 2018 and the team documented and recorded all aspects of the damage.

In addition, the team studied the causes and development of a complete restoration plan, which included mechanical restoration, installation and consolidation of layers, fix the crusts and color cracks.

Also, the tem installed protective umbrellas to protect the temple from the sun, dust and rainwater effects.

Noteworthy, the archaeological Atrips city follow 19th region of the Upper Egypt provinces, and the temple was built using weak local-made limestone. It consists of a number of rooms surrounded by a large wall as well as several corridors.
